Home Education Scotland is looking for enthusiastic members to add to our board of trustees.
No previous experience in supporting or working for a charity is required, just a desire to work on behalf of HES’s membership and the wider home education community in Scotland, to further our aim of improving the environment for home education in Scotland.
Trustees are expected to act in support of our aims, and to support our principles of inclusivity and support for all home educators in Scotland, recognising the full diversity of our community and the learning approaches to be found within it.
We work proactively with the Scottish Government, local authorities, other public bodies and the third sector to improve policy and practice, and to inform professionals and the wider public about home education. We also engage with media organisations to improve coverage of home education in newspapers and on radio and TV.
Although no specific skills are required, we welcome interest from those with skills they believe can enhance what we do, such as (but not limited to!) social media communication, financial management, or media relations.
We are also keen to hear from home educators who have an insight into the particular needs of interest groups within our communities, such as children with additional support needs (ASN), migrant families, or looked-after children.
No trustee should be overburdened with work for HES, but a willingness to share the workload and enthusiastically contribute to our activities is essential.
Please email us, using the word ‘trustee’ in the subject box, at contact@homeeducationscotland.org.uk with any queries, or to express an interest in joining the team. Please email by the closing date of Sunday, October 10, 2021.
